Press Release: Strong Women of Victorian Manchester Digital Storytelling Project

The Visioning Lab team are pleased to announce the launch of an exciting Kickstarter that aims to create an immersive storytelling project, ‘The Strong Women of Victorian Manchester’.

By using the digital tools, we will be using the storyworld concept to fictionalise the lives of 5 historical women. It will also investigate early experiences of climate change in the industrial city, demonstrating how the shift in economy and agriculture in turn led to the changing climate of broader systemic issues, such as gender, sexuality, class and race.

Through the project, we hope to challenge representations of legacy in Manchester as we know it today. We want to get people questioning the lack of statues, plaques and commemorative materials dedicated to strong women more broadly.

The output of the project will comprise of:

  • 5x 2,000 word stories
  • 5x 1 minute short film introduction to each woman
  • 10x animated visuals to accompany the stories

The Kickstarter campaign offers a host of pledge opportunities, ranging from augmented reality postcards and supporter credits, to bespoke animations and feedback sessions. It even offers the chance to be included in the story itself! Be sure to pledge before March 25th to secure exclusive perks.
